Claude now works in the background: Anthropic launches the Claude Duet assistant app

Anthropic launched Claude Duet, a new assistant app for professionals and small businesses. Built on Claude Opus 5.5, Duet prepares daily briefings and dashboards, suggests actions based on the user’s data and runs tasks in the background on its own virtual machine, coming back when it needs approval. Sensitive steps such as payments require the user’s approval, and Duet will not trade securities or move money between accounts. It is available on iOS, Android and Claude.ai as a research preview for Pro and Max subscribers, via a waitlist.

03 — What you can do

A prompt (the request you type) and the result you get. You can try similar things today with popular tools. All examples →

Concrete examples in four areas.

Text

Writing, summarising, translating and editing. It can shrink a long email to three sentences or turn formal language into plain words.

Prompt

Write a short, polite message telling my landlord I will pay the rent three days late.

Result

Hello Ms Taylor, because my salary is delayed, I will pay this month’s rent three days late, by the 8th at the latest. Thank you for your understanding.

Images

Drawing a scene you describe, cleaning up a photo background or sketching ideas for a logo.

Prompt

Sunset over the Bosphorus, navy and red tones, cinematic, wide angle.

Result (illustrative)

Code

Automating small jobs even if you cannot code: tidying spreadsheets or renaming files in bulk.

Prompt

Write Python code that removes duplicate email addresses from a list.

Result
def remove_duplicates(emails):
    seen = set()
    for a in emails:
        a = a.strip().lower()
        seen.add(a)
    return sorted(seen)  # no duplicates

Audio

Transcribing a meeting, reading text aloud or translating a podcast into another language.

Prompt

Transcribe this 30-minute meeting recording and list the decisions in three points.

Result

1. Launch on 12 November. 2. Budget approved. 3. Elif will draft the announcement.

How does AI work? In three steps.

01 — Learns

It learns from examples.

AI studies huge numbers of examples, such as text, images or sound, and works out the rules by itself. Nobody writes the rules one by one.

02 — Connects

It links patterns together.

It connects the similarities between examples like a network. That is how it knows which word tends to come next, or what a cat looks like.

03 — Answers

It produces the likeliest answer.

When you ask a question, it builds the most likely answer step by step from those connections. That is why it is often surprisingly good, but sometimes wrong.

04 — In numbers

How widespread is AI?

88%

Share of organisations reporting that they use AI.

53%

Population adoption of generative AI, reached in just three years.

66%

AI agents’ success rate on computer tasks (OSWorld), up from about 12% a year earlier.

362

Documented AI incidents in 2025, up from 233 in 2024.

You don’t need to fear AI. You just need to understand it.
